The Jazz Cyclist – Nomadic Travel & Music

The Jazz Cyclist – Welcome

Mark and Maree, two Kiwis living a semi-nomadic lifestyle. We travel by MTB, 4WD and “Shank’s Pony” with ambitions to be FULLY nomadic!

We’ll tell tales and bring news of our adventures in cycling, art, food and wine as we navigate life’s speed bumps – not forgetting the Jazz of course.

Please feel free to enjoy and participate.

Travel by Mountain Bikes

Our Prefered Method of Travel

Our preferred method of travel, if time permits are Giant mountain bikes (MTBs). Mark rides a 2010  XTC whilst Maree gets about on a 2008 XTC. For short day or overnight trips, we use the Topeak bags and panniers. We alternate our MTB tyres between Schwalbe Marathon Plus touring or Serfas MTB products depending on the terrain.

Our lastest cycle trips and one-day rides can be viewed on Mark’s Strava site.

Travel by Nissan Patrol 4WD

A less preferred mode of transport - our Nissan Patrol Y61

Another of our equally enjoyable methods of travel is our Y61 Nissan Patrol seen here on Lucky Bay Beach, Western Australia.

Music – “It’s A Jazz Thing”

Mark has a long history presenting Jazz format radio shows in New Zealand (GeorfeFM & KFM) and in Australia (PBS Melbourne, Radio Adelaide, BayFM Brisbane).  Over the years Mark has built up a strong following amongst local listeners as well as connections with artists and record labels worldwide. Mark has constantly used the name “It’s A Jazz Thing” for his specialist’s shows. The shows feature jazz favourites from Mark’s extensive LP & CD collection as well as the latest releases from artists around the world.

Mark was a co-founder of the collective “Creative Jazz Club Aotearoa” and visits the live gigs presented by the club whenever he is back in Auckland

Playlists of previous shows can be found here.
